Lined guide pages, a complete calligraphy alphabet, blank paper and quill-trimming instructions complete the set.

It takes practice to learn to avoid blotches, and to get the ink to come out slowly and evenly as you write. When you dip the quill into the ink, a little gets sucked into the hollow shaft, so you can write a few words before you have to dip the pen again.

Goose feathers from the left wing are favored for right handed writers, and feathers from the right wing for left handed writers. The natural curve of the quill makes writing more comfortable.
